Why I Wrote This Blog

This blog serves as my ongoing analysis of this terrible terrible game. Perhaps some useful consumer game design insight will arise from this process. More likely, it’ll simply serve as a channel for me to let off some steam.

To do this, I’m going to analyze the different elements of Type 1 diabetes management and onboarding as if they are features of a video game. The features are more-or-less presented in the order in which the player (i.e. myself) experienced them. In each case, I will try to provide a description of the established game-design best practices and rules, followed by a description of how Type 1 diabetes (usually) violates this directly.
